Saugeen Community Business Excellence (SCoBE) Awards
Celebrating 12 years of business excellence

The SCoBE Awards pay tribute to some of the area’s hardest-working businesses. Get involved by nominating a business, or nominate your own business, in one of six categories:

  • Company of the Year (Under 15 Employees)
  • Company of the Year (Over 15 Employees)
  • Young Entrepreneur of the Year
  • Entrepreneur of the Year
  • Corporate Citizen of the Year
  • Customer Service Excellence

Nomination forms are now available at http://www.sbdc.ca/scobe/10-nominations.shtml or by calling 1-877-335-7332. Everyone is welcome to nominate a business.

The Saugeen Community Business Excellence Awards are presented by the Saugeen Economic Development Corporation, in conjunction with the Chesley & District Chamber of Commerce, CKNX Radio, Hanover Chamber of Commerce, Mildmay Chamber of Commerce, Municipality of Brockton, Paisley and District Chamber of Commerce, Town of Hanover, Walkerton & District Chamber of Commerce, and West Grey Chamber of Commerce.

Celebrate the Sidewalk

The Chesley District Chamber of Commerce is sponsoring an event called “Celebrate the Sidewalk!” which will happen the same day as the 2nd Annual Chesley Wide Yard Sale (which is a fundraiser for the Medical Clinic Expansion) on Sat. Sept. 18th.

This event will include the following:

FOR THE KIDS:

  • free face painting
  • free balloons
  • free popcorn and sidewalk chalk to write their name on the NEW sidewalk

ALSO HAPPENING:

  • acoustic jam at Biermans Bar and Grill from 2pm
  • Join the crowd on Main Street between 2-3 pm for the grand ribbon cutting with Mayor Ron Oswald and group photograph!
  • Visit any store on Main Street to pick up your “PASSPORT”…get it stamped at  5 different stores and submit for A CHANCE TO WIN! The big prize is an outdoor propane firepit donated by B&L Farm Services Ltd. and Chesley RONA. Value $224 (** Please contact me ASAP at 519-363-5527 if you would like to donate something for the draw!!  Credit will be given to you) Other prizes too.

AND  The Chesley Heritage and Woodworking Museum will be open – check out the artifacts found during “The Big Dig 2010″! Drop off your Big Dig photo for a chance to win two tickets to our local theatre courtesy of The Chesley Community Players (adults) or two gift certificates courtesy of The Pizza Pantry (students).

The event is being promoted in The Hanover Post and on the radio.  It is also in the September issue of the Arran-Elderslie newsletter. Last year $3000 was raised by individual members of the community donating some or all of their yard sale proceeds plus The Fireman’s BBQ to the Medical Clinic Expansion Fund.  If your business makes a donation from sales this day, a  receipt for income tax purposes will be available.

This will be an opportunity to celebrate and promote business on our new Main Street!   Looking forward to a successful event!

Grey-Bruce now has a new free community classifieds, it’s called BoogiBoard.com and is a great place for local area businesses and residents alike to Post Classifieds for free. The service, which is operated out of Chesley and Owen Sound home-based offices offers a great community-based service where users can not only buy & sell locally, but also promote their businesses and events easily. Did we mention that it’s free?

Each of these main categories offers several sub, or “child” categories, making it easy to locate items or events of interest.
